Shirley Jane (Scott) McDonough
Dec 27, 1937 - Mar 12, 2016
Posted by: Jo Aguirre
Shirley was born to the late Leo and Frances Scott in Des Arc, Arkansas on
December 27, 1934. She was a graduate of Capitol Hill High School and later
worked as the Principal’s Secretary at Capitol Hill Middle School, finally
retiring after 28 years. Shirley loved being there with the children and made
many lifelong friendships during her time.
She was blessed with a large and loving family. Shirley married the love of her
life, Joseph McDonough, on January 15, 1955 and they made their home in Oklahoma
City. Spending time with her family and watching her grandchildren and
great-grandchildren grow was truly her joy.
Shirley was most known for her strong faith in the Lord. She was a witnessing
Christian and was ready to share her faith with anyone who visited with her. She
was also a prayer warrior, willing to fall to her knees on behalf of anyone in
need and provided wise and thoughtful advice, which were a comfort to many who
knew her.
Shirley also enjoyed many hobbies such as shopping, decorating, reading,
searching for antiques, flower gardening and garage sales. She passed her love
of reading in particular down to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Frances Scott; husband,
Joseph McDonough; and son, Scott McDonough.
Shirley is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Janie and Larry Hink;
daughter-in-law Cheryl McDonough; grandchildren; Amber and husband Jeff Little,
Janea and husband James Bertsch, Christopher and wife Jonna McDonough, and
Taylor and wife Lauren Hink; as well as her precious great-grandchildren;
Joseph, Jacob, Jace and Cruze; and many other dearly loved family members and
close friends.
Family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00-8:00pm at Resthaven. Services to
celebrate Shirley’s life will be 10:00am Friday, March 18th at the Resthaven
Funeral Home Chapel. She will be laid to rest at Resthaven Memory Gardens.
