Wanda May Lackey entered Heaven’s gates on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at 82.The daughter of Olen “LD” and Opal Mary Newton, Wanda was born on March 29,
1936 in Vian, Oklahoma. While Wanda’s father was working in the cotton
fields, she often traveled between Firebaugh, California, as well as, Vian,
Notchetown, Sallisaw and Gore, Oklahoma while attending school in each town.
On September 4, 1955 in Sallisaw, Oklahoma, Wanda married the love of her
life, Kenneth Leon Lackey and together shared 50 years of marriage and
raising their two children. In addition to being a loving wife, devoted
mother and dedicated homemaker, Wanda earned a business degree from Draughon
School of Business where she was honored with the Lifetime Achievement
Scholarship. She worked for many different businesses including as a
bookkeeper for Studebaker Dealership in Sallisaw, Oklahoma and as a
secretary for an insurance company in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Wanda had a very
loving and generous heart and it brought her great joy to help others. In
1985, Wanda began fostering young children through the Casy Family Foster
Program and became a mother-figure for 15 children. Later in life, Wanda
loved her living in the country where she enjoyed watching the wild birds,
squirrels and deer. She was also an avid crossword puzzle solver. Wanda will
be deeply missed.
She was preceded in death by her:
Parents;
Husband, Kenneth Lackey;
Son, Kenny Lackey in 1994.
She leaves behind her loving:
Daughter, Rhonda Singleton and her husband, Larry of Newalla, OK;
Two Grandchildren: Lacy Mae Spanier and Crystal Rae Hernandez;
Three Step-sons: Josh, Jeremy and Erick Singleton;
Seven Great Grandkids: Tyler Foster, Ryatt Hernandez, Emeryn Hernandez,
Bailey Singleton, Emma Singleton, Noah Singleton and Donnie Khristopher
Niehoff;
Two best friends: Marsha Niehoff and Dorothy Wheeler.
