Funeral services for Mrs. Zona Lea Garrison, age 93, longtime south Oklahoma City resident and wife of the Reverend Alvin Garrison, will be held at 10:00am Monday, January 20, 2014 at the Southern Hills Baptist Church, 8601 South Pennsylvania Avenue in Oklahoma City with Dr. Doug Melton officiating.

The Garrison family will greet friends from 2:00pm to 4:00pm on Sunday, January 19, 2014 at the Resthaven Funeral Home, 500 SW 104th Street in Oklahoma City.

Zona Lea was born February 22, 1920 in Mountain Park, Oklahoma the daughter of John Irma and Edith (Brown) Allen.  She passed away early Thursday morning, January 16, 2014 at her home.

Zona Lea was raised and educated in the Blair, Oklahoma area, graduating from Blair High School in 1937.  She attended one year of college at Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Oklahoma before meeting and falling in love with a tall and handsome gentleman named Alvin Garrison.  The two of them were married in the home of Zona Lea’s parents on July 8, 1939.
Alvin and Zona Lea invested 74½ years of their marriage ministering and caring for countless people.   A faithful and devoted wife, Zona Lea invested her entire life walking side by side with Alvin as God called him to lead multiple churches across Oklahoma.  Zona Lea committed herself to teaching Sunday school, doing church visitations and serving in numerous leadership capacities to advance God’s Kingdom and teach others about Jesus Christ.  Zona Lea also enjoyed sewing, painting, and spending quality time with her family.
Colossians 3:12 reads, “So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience”
Zona Lea’s life speaks to each word found in this verse.  She lived a life to serve others, always giving God the glory for it.  She will be missed but we rejoice in knowing she is at home with her Savior, united with a God she simply adored.

She is survived by her husband, the Reverend Alvin Garrison of the home; one daughter, Shirley Lykins and her husband, Rex of Oklahoma City; one granddaughter, Jaime Conover and her husband, Rory of Newcastle, Oklahoma; and her two great grandchildren, Christian and Addison Conover.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Travis Allen and John Allen, Jr.; and two sisters, Verla Brown and Frances Shafer.

Entombment will conclude at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Oklahoma City under the direction of the Resthaven Funeral Home of Oklahoma City.

Memorial donations may be made in memory of Mrs. Zona Lea Garrison to the Oklahoma Eating Disorder Association, 6003 North Robinson Street, Suite 112, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73118.
