Helen (Garcia) Downing entered eternal life with the Lord on Monday, September 2, 2019, at her home in Oklahoma City. She was born April 15, 1937, in Juliff, Texas, to Manuel and Dominga Garcia. She was the oldest of ten children, and a proud graduate of Central High School class of 1955. She married Richard L. Downing on June 9, 1960. They had four beautiful children. She was a proud Marine wife and mother.
Helen worked throughout her life including temporary employment with the US Postal Service. Her favorite job; however, was at Remington Park where she worked in Cleaning Service for over 20 years. She enjoyed spending time with her loved ones, and everything Elvis. She was an active member of the Life Church South Campus, even listening or watching online with her daughter's help when she couldn't attend services any longer.
She is survived by her children: Benny Downing of Oklahoma City, daughter-in-law Mavis Downing of Moore, OK, Cindy (Downing) Martinez of Oklahoma City and her husband Floyd, daughter and granddaughter, Richard Downing Jr. and his wife Carol of Edmond, OK and their four children and 15 grandkids, Manuel Downing of Oklahoma City, self-adopted son, Matthew Downing of Deland, Florida; her granddaughter Helen "Robbi" Downing of Moore, and grandsons Shelby Downing of Oklahoma City and Dylan Downing of Moore, OK; five brothers: Manuel, Raymond, Johnny, Adolfo and Albert; three sisters: Irene, Josephine, Frances and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Helen is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, grandson Cody Austin Downing and two sisters, Lupe and Rosie.
A viewing will be held Sunday, September 8, 2019 at Resthaven Funeral Home: 500 S. W. 104th St. Oklahoma City, OK 73139, from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm. Services will be held at 2:00pm on Monday, September 9, 2019, at Life Church Moore Campus: 2916 S. Telephone Rd. Moore, OK 73160, with Stefan Reed and Clint Brewer officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens.
