Wyman C Dobbs passed away May 9, 2008 in Oklahoma City, OK at the age of 79. Born in Byars, Oklahoma to Luther & Sula Dobbs. Wyman joined the US Army 4th inf Division serving in Germany until being Honorably discharged in 1954.
In the following year he married the love of his life Melba Louise Russell on June 4, 1955 in Oklahoma City. Together they raised 2 children Dennis and Russell.
May 16, 1957 was the start of Wymans career with the Oklahoma City Fire Department were he quickly climbed to the rank of District Chief on June 13, 1975. He retired June 28, 1985.
There was never a dull moment in Wymans life as he was well known in the community and throughout the entire city. He served as baseball coach and mentor for Calvin Coolidge Crocodiles and southwest optimist Tigers. He was instrumental in the formation & development of the Woodson Park baseball complex. Scout Master with Boy Scout Troop 186, a member of the Capitol Hill Lions Club, serving a term as President and Vice President of the OKC Retired Firefighters Association from 1986 to 1994 & President from 1994 to 2005 he used his influence and presence at the Oklahoma State Capitol to work for the benefit of retired firefighters & their widows. He attended the Shartel Church of God and enjoyed the fellowship of group breakfasts, dinners & the activities of the Joyaires
He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Lucille Poteet, Roberta Fox, Hassey McConnell, brother, James A. Dobbs & great grandson Jordan Dobbs. He is survived by his wife Melba Dobbs, sons, Dennis Dobbs & his wife Barbara, Russell Dobbs & his wife Kim. Grandchildren, Ryan Dobbs & his wife Amanda, Jared Dobbs, Samantha Dobbs, Marshall Dobbs, & Madison Dobbs. Great grandchildren, Jayden Dobbs & Daniel Zec.
Services to celebrate his life will be held 10 A.M. Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at Shartel Church of God 11600 S. Western OKC. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens, with honors presented by the Oklahoma City Fire Department Honor Guard.
Memorials may be made to Shartel Church of God or the Benevolence fund at the OKC Retired Firefighters Assoc. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 5 to 7 at the funeral home.
