Paul Allen Cox was born on October 19, 1950 to Eldon & Jo Ann Cox in Ferriday, Louisiana. He passed from this life to his heavenly home, escaping the prison of early-onset Alzheimers on February 28, 2020 at the age of 69.

Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Thursday, March 5, 2020 at Community Church in Guthrie, Oklahoma. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Paul loved Jesus, his family, and taking care of people and animals. In 1971, the American Medical Association acknowledged nuclear medicine as an official medical specialty and in 1972, the American Board of Nuclear Medicine was formed. Paul was a bright, newly married orderly at University Hospital in Oklahoma City when one of the doctors recognized his work ethic, and aptitude for science and mathematics. He was offered the first work-study position created in the State of Oklahoma, where he excelled. He was known for his tender care for people of all walks of life. He served his patients at Mercy Hospital for 15 years, was Chief Technologist at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (the royal hospital) for 4 years, Stillwater Medical Center for 10 years, and finished his career with Cardiovascular Associates.

He was the champion of the underdog. He would find the most overlooked person in the room to compliment or talk to, making them feel like they were the most important. Wherever he worked, he made sure he knew the names of the housekeeping and cafeteria staff, going out of his way to let them know how valued they were. He was frequently heard to say, “the deepest need of the human spirit is to be appreciated.” And, he never met a stray animal he didn’t love.

Paul was pre-deceased by his father, Eldon Cox, and younger brother, Michael Cox.

He is survived by his mother, Jo Ann Cox of Tahlequah, OK; wife, Jan Cox of Edmond, OK, children Lori Cook and husband Todd, of Yukon, OK; Mark Cox, and wife Tomoko, of Nagano, Japan; Tiffany Dement and husband Adam of Edmond, OK; Amy Ryan and husband Jason of Piedmont, OK; and grandchildren Shelby & Garrett Cook; Kai, Leina, Emma, & Lila Cox; Mercy, Joshua & Josiah Dement, and Kylie, Kyrsten & Jack Ryan.

He loved going to the Christian concerts, praise and worship, movies, going to the gym, and in later years, took up scuba diving and triathlons. He read the Bible through every year until he was no longer able. He considered himself a common man, but his friends and family knew better. There will be no “resting in peace” for Paul Cox, as he has been promoted from Chief Tech to Chief Worshiper.
