Funeral services for Mrs. Minnie "Johnny" Broughton, age 79, of Tuttle were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 27, 2004 in The Chapel of the Resthaven Funeral Home, 500 SW 104th Street, Oklahoma City.

Johnny, as she was known by her family and friends, was born October 16, 1924 in Highfill, Ark. the daughter of Homer and Vesta (Murdock) Scroggins. She passed away Tuesday, August 24, 2004 at the Midwest City Regional Hospital in Midwest City, Oklahoma.

She was raised in Vaughn, Arkansas where she attended public schools, graduating from Vaughn High School in 1942. Johnny was united in marriage to Mr. Jerry Broughton on June 11, 1945 in Cave Springs, Arkansas.

They made their home in Arkansas until moving to the Oklahoma City area in 1970. After retirement they moved to Tuttle in 1989. Johnny enjoyed sewing, embroidery, spending time with her grandchildren and traveling. She was devoted to lifting the spirits of others by sending cards of encouragement and writing personal letters to those she loved. She will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her husband of over 59 years, Jerry of the home; two sons, Jerry W. Broughton and his wife, Donna of Edmond; Jim Broughton and his wife, Kim of Scottsdale, AZ; two daughters Barbara Riggs of Tuttle and Elizabeth Birkes and her husband, Jesse of Grove, OK; ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Jody Broughton in 1974; one son-in-law, John Riggs in 2000, three brothers, and one sister.

Burial will conclude in Resthaven Memory Gardens under the direction of the Resthaven Funeral Home of Oklahoma City.
