Loyd Roy Barnes

Loyd R. Barnes, 80 yrs old went to be with the Lord after an extended illness on Sunday, Dec. 7, 2008, with his loving family by his side. Born Nov. 8, 1928 in Okla. City to Pearl and William R. Barnes.

Loyd married his sweetheart LaQuita Joy Vaughn, Dec. 4, 1950 and had just celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary.

As a young man, he enlisted in the Army and served his country for 4 yrs.

Loyd and his wife owned and operated Barnes Wrecker Service and Auto Salvage for over 50 yrs. and had been involved with various business ventures throughout that time.

He enjoyed watching auto racing, boxing, and OU football games with his family and friends that would gather at their home. He also looked forward to working in the yard with his wife, LaQuita, and taking drives to see the seasonal foliage changes.

One of the true highlights of his life was the family gatherings for birthdays, holidays, and family cookouts.

Loyd was preceded in death by his parents, Pearl and William Barnes; son, Terry Barnes; sisters, Mary Ruth Hix and Rea Moulton and his brother, W.R. Barnes.

He is survived by his wife LaQuita of the home, daughter Pamela Winders and her husband Bill Davis; son Michael Barnes and his wife Christie, and son Darron Barnes and his wife Melanie. Loyd is also survived by grandchildren: Kelly and husband Chuck Curry; Jamie and husband Brandon Ersteniuk; Stacia, Amy, Hayley, and Nikki Barnes; Jimmy, Michaela and Katelyn Barnes and Ally, Keaton and Reece Barnes. He also leaves behind great grandchildren; Clay, Gracie, Breanna, and Brooke Curry; Jaxon Ersteniuk; Madison Barton; He also leaves behind two great grandchildren soon to arrive; Loyd is also survived by his sister Betty Rose Bannon of Tahlequah, Oklahoma and a host of other relatives and friends including nieces and nephews.

Loyd will be greatly missed as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.

The family would like to thank Dr. Dina Moreman and the staff of Select Specialty Hospital of OKC and also Dana Cook and Shawn Stevens of Sweetbriar Nursing Home, MWC for their loving care.

Services will be held 1:00 PM, Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008 at the funeral home chapel with burial at Resthaven Cemetery in OKC.
