Verlene Kay Yohn, loving wife,
mother, grandmother, and friend, went to heaven on Thursday, August 17, 2017.
Verlene Kay Ireton was born on August 27, 1942 to Walter and Julia Ireton in
Leedey, Oklahoma. She grew up on the family’s farm with her brothers, Elmer and
Leroy. After graduating from Leedey High School, she attended Southwestern
University where she received a bachelor’s degree.
In 1962, Verlene went on a blind date with Bill Yohn, and the rest is history.
Verlene and Bill were married on June 5, 1964. Over their 53 years of marriage,
they did everything together. For many years, they enjoyed trips to Colorado
where they hiked in the mountains. Verlene loved Bill unconditionally, was a
servant beside him during his years in ministry, and cared for him faithfully
and tirelessly.
Verlene was a loving mother to her daughter, Stephanie, and her son, Chris. She
was patient, kind, and generous with her love and time. Her love was always
unconditional. She was truly an example of a godly mother.
Verlene’s faith was in Jesus Christ her Savior. She trusted and depended on Him
throughout her life. She faithfully served the Lord and brought Him much glory.
Verlene was a member of Trinity Baptist Church where she sang in the choir for
many years. She enjoyed solving crossword puzzles, playing the piano, and
spending time with her dear friends.
Verlene was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband,
Bill; her daughter, Stephanie, and her husband, Todd; her son, Chris, and his
wife, Shawn; her five grandchildren, Kylie, Ashlyn, and Jackson Shropshire, and
