Paul Edward Wise, age 70, of Oklahoma City, passed away in his home June 15, 2017.  He was born October 29, 1946, in Shawnee, OK, to William Riley and Inez McFarland Wise.
 
After growing up in Tecumseh, OK, Paul received a degree in History & Political Science from the University of Oklahoma, like his parents, in 1968.  Paul was so proud of his OU Sooner heritage, loved the traditions, and instilled the pride of being a Sooner in his children and grandchildren.  Right after graduation, he married Susan Gunderson on June 4, 1968.  Paul worked for the University of Oklahoma in Public Relations after graduation and served in the US Army from 1968 until 1971, serving as a Captain at Ft. Knox, Kentucky.  He then developed his career in broadcast television until 2000 after which he acquired his teaching credentials teaching history and science for 8 years in Houston, TX and Norman, OK.  
 
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Bill Wise. 

Paul is survived by his wife, Susan M. Wise, son, David Christian Wise, daughter, Amy Rebecca Harrell, his daughter-in-law Krista Wise and son-in-law Christopher Harrell.  Paul has six grandchildren, Hannah Elizabeth Harrell, Payton James Harrell, Woods Davis Harrell, Tave Christian Wise, Chapman David Wise, and Tucker William Wise.
 
Paul was known for being engaged and active.  He was spontaneous and was the initiator of family fun as he treasured time spent with his family.  He cherished time spent with Susan, David, and Amy at Lake Tenkiller and Ski Island.  Never having sailed, he watched a video on how to sail, bought a boat, and he and David put it in the water.  He always said, “I can’t control the direction of the wind but I can trim the sails.”  Being a history buff, he read, A Man Walks Through Time, and took David and his nephew Eric backpacking across the Grand Canyon.  He continued this journey of sharing life experiences with his family through traveling to exotic places and long adventures driving across the country.  Paul was fascinated with fast cars beginning with his Triumph.  From Olivia Newton John to Steven Curtis Chapman, he was a lover of music that connected to his heart, put a beat in his step, and instilled a love of music in his children. 
 
Paul loved God and loved people.   His greatest asset was modeling patience to his wife, children, and grandchildren.  He lived what he believed and loved to go deep in conversation and talk about things that were true, important and had value in a person’s life.  He learned over the course of his life, through being a cancer survivor, even when he could not speak or stand, what it means to live a life fully surrendered to his Lord Jesus Christ.  Paul shared his love for God through daily prayer for his children and grandchildren and through sharing words of Godly wisdom with each of his six grandchildren weekly. This was his greatest joy, to know his grandchildren were growing strong in the Lord and seeking Him daily.
 
The family will be receiving friends at Havenbrook Funeral Home in Norman from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 18. 

A graveside service will be held at 12:00 p.m. at Norman IOOF Cemetery, Monday, June 19, 2017. Memorial Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 19th at the Bethel Baptist Church Annex, 1132 McGee Dr., Norman followed by a celebration of his life at the Cow House, in Norman at 1023 S. College Avenue, his and Susan’s first home.

Memorials may be made in memory of Paul to Mission Norman.
