JOYCE ELANE WHITLOCK , a long time Norman resident, passed away on January 5, 2011 at the age of 80. She spent the last 3 years of her life in Chandler, AZ, a suburb of Phoenix close to her oldest son and family. She spent the previous 7 years in Sherman, TX near her youngest son and family.

Joyce was born in McCalester, OK on December 8, 1930, to Harvey Lane and Ollie Lee Bruns. She was raised in Cushing, OK where she graduated from Cushing High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Sam F. Whitlock from Drumright, OK on June 5, 1949. Sam was a longtime prominent Norman attorney who preceded her in death in 1978.

Joyce 's passion was her family. She was the light in her husband Sam's life and Sam was the light in hers. She raised two sons who are very proud of her determination and independence that she demonstrated for over 30 years.

Joyce enjoyed modeling and was active in the Norman Jaycees Jaynes, Cub Scouts, PTA and many of her son's school activities. She played piano, adored her many dogs over the years and enjoyed entertaining many friends and family in her longtime residence on Westchester Ave. Joyce was an avid Sooner football fan and attended games for many years. She worked for the Cleveland County Health Department and retired in 1995. From 1988 to 1999 she was owner/manager of the Hollywood Apartments on Wylie road where she shared residence with her aunt Vivian Hamilton.

Joyce is survived by her two sons, Sam of Chandler, AZ and John of Sherman, TX; sister, Billie White of Peoria, AZ; aunt, Vivian Hamilton of Sherman, TX; granddaughters Melissa and Melinda of Chandler; Dana of Norman, OK and Shannon of Sherman, TX; two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, January 12, 2011 in the Chapel at Havenbrook Funeral Home located at 3401 Havenbrook Street, Norman, OK 73072 with interment following in the IOOF Cemetery, Norman under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home.
