Doris Lorraine Warren was born on June 8, 1924, on the Nailon farm in northwest Norman as the third child of C. B. (Bennie) Warren and Annie Rutherford Warren. She left this life for her eternal heavenly home on Tuesday, May 16, 2017, while a resident at the Norman Arbor House. At the age of 5 her family moved to an 80 acre farm and home east of Norman where she lived until she married. She attended Adair School and Norman High School, graduating in 1940 at the age of 15. In 1940, she met Bruce W. Thrower, a Norman native who was serving in the US Army. The two were joined in marriage on December 7, 1941, the day of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. They were married for 43 years until Bruce's sudden death in 1984. Doris was a stay at home Mom for the early years of their 3 sons, Darrell, Steve and Alan. Once all kids were in school, Doris began working outside the home with a first job as a door-to-door Avon saleslady. In 1964, Doris started a career with the University of Oklahoma Athletic Department. Her first position was in the University Golf Course pro shop, located in an old Navy Officers Club building on the South Campus. Doris enjoyed working at the golf course with Edie Goodmiller and golf professionals Bob James and Robert O. Smith. After a few years in this position, Doris accepted a position working under the legendary OU ticket manager, Red Reid, where she worked until her retirement in June, 1989. She cherished the many great friends that she made while working at OU. During her ticket office career, she and Bruce had several opportunities to travel with the Department official party to OU football bowl games. Doris was a devoted and active member of First Baptist Church for over 50 years until her declining health left her unable to attend services. After Bruce's death, Doris was blessed with the companionship of a wonderful fellow church member, Mr. Ben Bourland. They spent 10 years as great friends and made several trips to OU sporting events together until Ben’s death in 2002. She also enjoyed many travels with her church family, including several baseball trips. She claimed her love of sports was required as the only female in a house with a husband and 3 sons. She was a fan of any activity of her sons, grandchildren and great grandchildren and was a big fan of all Oklahoma Sooner teams.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce, her parents and two older brothers, Carl Warren and Roy Warren.

She is survived by her sons Darrell and wife Joyce of OKC, Steve and companion Marilyn Miller of Little Rock, AR and Alan and wife Lori of Norman. She is also survived by grandchildren Lesa (John) Leverett, Amy (Tim) Lofgren, Beverly (John) Dixon, Ryan (Erika) Thrower, Marca Thrower and Sara (Rick) Leonard, 7 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Betty Warren.

The Thrower family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Arbor House, the companion care staff of Hearts at Home Companion Care of Norman, the staff of Good Shepherd Hospice Services and Dr. Jonathan Bryan.
In particular, Doris was spoiled by the loving care provided by Marcia, Deborah, Victoria, Deta, Pat, Shawnasea and Mary Lee of Hearts at Home.

The family will receive visitors at Havenbrook Funeral Home on Thursday,
May 18 from 5:00-7:00 pm.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, May 19 at Norman IOOF Cemetery at 11:00 am.
