Kevin Duval Scott, passed away Thursday, February 2, 2012 in Frankfurt, Germany at the age of 52.
He was born March 12, 1959 in Chicago, Illinois to James and Barbara Scott. He
was raised in Chicago with his older siblings, brother James and sister Tanja
whom he affectionately called Toots. Over the years Kevin developed his
extroverted personality and passion for sports; he grew into a charismatic
person full of humor, wit, intelligence with a passion for reading and love for
life. He was best known for his laughter.
Kevin joined the United States Air Force in 1987. After basic training he worked
in the Morale, Welfare, and Recreation unit. After separation, he later earned
an Associate of Arts degree in Liberal Arts from Vista Community College and a
Bachelor of Arts degree with highest honors in African-American Studies from the
University of California at Berkeley in 1997. He served as an Undergraduate
Advisor at Cal in addition to being a long time staff member of Contemporary
Services Corporation as an Event Manager until moving to Kuwait in 2005. His
tenure in Kuwait began with CSA LTD as a Recreation Specialist, working his way
through the ranks into the various leadership positions, including Senior
Property Specialist and MWR Supervisor. His last place of employment was with
ITT Elexis, Mission Systems, where he served as an MWR Recreation Supervisor.
Kevin took pride in taking care of the soldiers.
Although passionate about his service, as continually evidenced in the high
performance standards of his teams, Kevin’s greatest love was his family. “At
Last” in October of 2009 he married Carol Ann Ross, a loving friendship that
began in 1980 in England. Kevin was not only a doting husband but truly loved
and was proud of his three daughters: Zena Willams (Demarco), Mica Scott, and
Brittany Black. In November of 2011, he became a grandfather and with excitement
that only Kevin can exude, welcomed granddaughter Fallon Vashti Scott, and in
December 2011 grandson Kenneth Warren Stewart.
This sudden loss also leaves
behind individuals for whom Kevin had an endearing love…his father Mr. James
Scott (Pop), brother James Scott and sister Tanja Scott (Toots). Kevin also
leaves a host of other dear family members, colleagues, ball players (including
being a championship coach for the Kuwait Ladies Softball for 6 years), and
friends to cherish his memory.
A Nike fanatic, die-hard Oakland Raider and Los Angeles Lakers fan, and proud
Cal alumnae, Kevin’s passion for life, a great party, Long Island Ice Tea with
cherry, and infectious laughter will be missed but never forgotten. His legacy
is grand and fills the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Kevin has been repatriated to and
interned in Norman, Oklahoma where he will be laid to rest beside his mother,
Mrs. Barbara Scott.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m., Monday, February 13, 2012 in the Chapel
of the Havenbrook Funeral Home, 3401 Havenbrook St., Norman, OK with
interment following in I.O.O.F.
Cemetery of Norman. Arrangements
are under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home.
