Vernon Richard Smith, 89, of Norman passed away on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at Norman Regional Medical Center.

Vernon was born on December 6, 1926 in Norman OK to Rufus and Lillie Smith. Vernon was a member of Goodrich Memorial United Methodist Church, Loyal Order of Moose, Norman lodge 1799 and the American Legion of Norman.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and worked and retired from Tinker Air Force Base in 1981 where he was in Quality Control.

Vernon is survived by one son, Michael Smith & his wife, Teresa; two brothers: Lewis and Asa Smith; Daughter-in-law: Sherry Smith; two grandsons: Ryan Smith & his wife, Toni and Sean Smith; two granddaughters: Lynnie Smith and Jennifer Simms & her husband, Eddie; and five great grandchildren: Dylan, Olivia, Rowan, Caden and Jaeden.

Vernon was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis J. Smith; one son, Robert Smith, and his Parents.

Viewing will be on Sunday, March 6, 2016 from 1-8 pm at Havenbrook Funeral Home and Funeral Services will be on Monday, March 7, 2016 at 1:00 pm at Havenbrook Funeral Home with burial to follow at Norman I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
