David Lee Skidmore went home to his Lord on April 17, 2015 after a short but hard fought battle with cancer.
He was born May 13, 1932 in Broken Bow, Oklahoma to Mary Alice (Ryker)
Skidmore and Benjamin Skidmore, Sr. He graduated from Sapulpa High School in
1951, and briefly attended Oklahoma State University. He enlisted in the US
Navy in January, 1953 and became a Machinist Mate, 2nd Class during the Korean
War, stationed in San Diego California.
He met and married the love of his life, Frances Elizabeth Higbee on August 24,
1956 in Wasco California, and shipped out two days later to finish out his
military career. He was honorably discharged from the US Navy in December,
1956.
He worked as a mechanic for several years in California before deciding to move
to Norman, Oklahoma to open his own car dealership. He opened David Skidmore
Motors in 1972, and retired from the car business in 1983. He worked in
woodworking and security for a couple years before fully retiring.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Frances, his daughter, Denise Madole of
Norman, his son David Skidmore of Norman, two grandsons: Connor Madole of
Norman and Sean Madole, and wife Kylie of Edmond, OK, his sister, Linda Massey
and husband Harvey of Vinita, OK, and three nephews: Jon Christian Massey of
Bartlesville, OK and Jason Massey of Ponca City, OK, Allen Barwick of Shawnee,
OK.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Alice Skidmore Cook, father,
Benjamin J. Skidmore, Sr. and brother, Benjamin J. Skidmore, Jr.
Services will be Friday, April 24, 2015 at 10:00am at Alameda Baptist Church.
Visitation will be Wednesday April 22, 3-8pm and Thursday, April 23, 8-8 at
Havenbrook Funeral Home.
