Here is some information about my grandmother’s grandmother, Margaret Elizabeth Boase Simpson, who is in the cemetery in spot S09-R07-18. Her headstone reads “Mrs E J” Simpson. She is next to her husband Elisha Jeptha Simpson, spot S09-R07-17.
Margaret Elizabeth (Bettie) Boase was born in Wayne County Kentucky, one of nine children. She was the daughter of George William Boase, born in Alabama, and Thursay Ann Collett who was born and raised in Wayne County. She and her family moved from Kentucky to Bell County Texas by 1880. Many of her siblings stayed in central Texas and raised families there. Margaret married another Wayne County native, Elisha Jeptha Simpson, whose family had also moved to Bell County. Margaret and E J had four children who lived into adulthood, all born in Texas. The family lived in Alvin Texas in 1900 and then moved to Purcell Oklahoma by 1910. Their daughter Pearl Simpson married Carl Dooley. Carl and Pearl owned and operated the Dooley Theater in Purcell. Margaret and E J’s daughter Anna Mae Simpson never married, was educated at Norman Normal School and was a lifelong educator in several communities in Oklahoma until her death. Their only surviving son Earl John Simpson, also called Junior, was educated at OU. He worked in the oil industry and died in Washington state. Margaret and Elisha lived in Norman with their married daughter, Gladys Virginia Simpson Luttrell, until their deaths in 1925 and 1935 respectively. They are buried in the Luttrell family plot in the Norman IOOF Cemetery alongside daughter Anna Mae Simpson.
