John Sauer went to
his heavenly home on June 9, 2012. He was born May 21, 1936 in Dewey, Oklahoma
to Joseph and Inez Sauer. John graduated from Dewey High School in Dewey, OK in
1954. He later enrolled at the University of Oklahoma obtaining a Bachelor of
Science degree in Business Administration on May 31, 1959.
After his gradution from OU, John joined the United States Air Force in 1959 and
served in Vietnam, Korea, Scotland, France, Greece and England. He was a Staff
Management Officer and a Supply Operations Officer during this time. During his
enlistment, John enrolled in Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana obtaining
a Master's of Art degree in 1976. He later retired from the United States Air
Force in 1979 with the rank of Major.
After his service in the Air Force he moved to Austin, Texas and started a
second career in the residential real estate business. After retiring from the
real estate business, he moved back to Norman, Oklahoma, his Alma Marta. John
was an avid OU football and basketball fan, a life-time member of the NRA and
had just been given a life-time membership in the Amateur Ham Radio Club of
Norman. He also loved old western and military movies and was a collector.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; stepdaughter, Traci Atchison; and
sister-in-law, Sandy Madden all of the home; two nieces, Brenda Remington and
family of Dewey, OK and Lisa Minor and family of South Coffeyville, OK; a
nephew, Steve Gilliland and family of Sapulpa, OK; and his canine baby girls,
Blu, Sheila and Fancy of the home. He is preceded in death by his parents and
one sister, Mary Gilliland.
Visitation for John will be held from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm, Tuesday, June 12, 2012
and 9:00 am – 8:00 pm, Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at the Havenbrook Funeral Home.
Services will begin at 10:00 am, Thursday, June 14, 2012 in the Chapel of the
Havenbrook Funeral Home with Reverend Cal Brannon officiating.
Interment will follow in the I.O.O.F.
Cemetery of Norman. The family will have a luncheon for family and
friends in the Havenbrook Event Center after the service. Arrangements for John
and his family were placed in the care of the Vice Family at the Havenbrook
Funeral Home of Norman. Online condolences may be shared at
