Doris Jean Sanders,
72, of Norman passed away Wednesday, September 2, 2015. She was born August 2,
1943 in Seminole to King and Edna Hodges Presley.
Doris graduated with Bachelors and Masters in Education and Administration from
the University of Oklahoma. She was an educator and administrator in Norman
Public Schools for 36 years. Her final year of employment at Lakeview
Elementary, where she was the Principal, they won the Blue Ribbon award. She
was dedicated to education, children, and families, knowing that education is a
whole-life experience, not just in the classroom and not just for the child.
Doris was a world traveler, who enjoyed learning about other cultures. One of
her life goals was to see a bear in the wild, which she finally achieved in 2014
in Alaska. Her favorite travelling companions were her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brother and two sisters.
Doris is
survived by her daughters, Sendy Sanders, Cerry Leffler, and Kelly Stokes all
of Norman; grandsons Kyle and Jacob Leffler, of Norman; her sister and
brother-in-law, Donna and Dale Wallace of Seminole; her brother-in-law Robert
Medenhall of St. Louise; and five nephews, three nieces.
The family will be present to receive friends for visitation from 5-8pm, Monday,
September 7, 2015, at Havenbrook Funeral Home in Norman.
Funeral services will begin at 10am, Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at the Havenbrook Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Pastor Rick Anthony, 3401 Havenbrook Street in Norman, with interment following at IOOF cemetery in Norman.
