Our beloved mother,
grandmother, and great-grandmother Mary Jo Moore passed away at the age of 90 on
June 24, 2017. She was born September 14, 1926 in Norman, OK to Roy Barrett and
Ruth Lindsley.
Mary Jo was born in a house on Norman’s 10-mile flat, grew up during the great
depression and graduated from Norman High. She met a young WWII vet attending
college on the GI bill in 1949, and Mary Jo and Preston became Mr. and Mrs.
Moore on January 8, 1950, a marriage that continued for 65 years and produced
two children, five grandchildren, and eight (soon to be nine)
great-grandchildren. Mary Jo was an equal partner in Preston’s oil industry
schools and together they and Lynette and Larry would travel all over the world
while Preston taught industry schools and Mary Jo handled the logistics of
putting on international training seminars. Preston always made a point to
credit Mary Jo for their successful business.
Mary Jo and Preston’s marriage is what idealistic young people aspire to when
they tie the knot. Over their 65 years of marriage they were utterly devoted to
each other and very much in love until Preston passed on and left Mary Jo to be
the family nucleus in 2015. We take comfort in knowing they are now experiencing
their joyous reunion, freed of their frail bodies.
Folks meeting her for the first time saw a lovely, put together, unassuming
lady, the epitome of a gracious southern woman. Her family knew her to be the
anchor that secured our bonds. She was infinitely kind, caring, and loving, and
she had the remarkable ability to be strong while simultaneously being tender.
She always put her family first even when her own health issues would have
overwhelmed a person of lesser character. She was and is an angel. In addition
to being Mom, she was a role model, an inspiration; and as we told her on many
occasions, our hero.
She lost both of her parents when she was just a child and lost her beloved
Preston two years ago.
She is survived by daughter Lynette, son Larry,
Grandchildren Michael, Gina, Tony, Danny, and Julie, Great-grandchildren
Preston, Jayden, Caleb, Greyson, Kaitlyn, Carson, Harper, and Hudson.
Visitation for will be from 5:00pm- 8:00pm, Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at Havenbrook
Funeral Home. Funeral Services will begin at 10:00am, Wednesday, June 28, 2017
at the Havenbrook Funeral Home Chapel with
interment following at IOOF Cemetery in Norman.
