Victor Dee Meyer

Victor Dee Meyer was born in Yale, Oklahoma, on February 8, 1926, and he died peacefully on February 8, 2020, his 94th Birthday. He wanted to live to see 2020 and be 94, he accomplished both. He always set high goals, and then did what needed to be done so as to finish what he started. Victor's father was a machinist and he spent his early years in Healdton, Oklahoma. The Meyer family moved to Norman in 1939, when Victor was 13, so his older sister could attend the University. In school, he loved shop class. Victor graduated Norman High School on May 26, 1944, then into military service. Victor was a radio and radar technician in WWII, serving as one of 13 Americans on the Dutch troop carrier ship the "Noordam". After the war was over, Victor attended Electronics School at OSU when it was still titled Oklahoma A & M in Stillwater. While going to school, he worked as a sheetrock hanger and finisher. While in Stillwater, he met and married Harriet, a beautiful nurse and the love of his live.

After graduation, Victor and Harriet moved to New York City to work for Sperry Gyroscope, however after three months of being miserable, they packed up and arrived back in Oklahoma with only $1.54. Victor and Harriet decided to never be unhappy again, and they both wanted to be near family. Victor continued to work in construction until he bought a partnership in University Electronics, a small store on Flood Street. He later bought out his partner and expanded the store. His business continued to grow, and he became a recognized RCA dealer in the "Top 25 Club" with his building "The House of Victor" on Main Street.

Victor was married to Harriet who he loved, cherished and took care of for 65 years. They liked to travel, touring the US in their motor home as well as Europe. He enjoyed his family and never took his good fortune for granted. He took care of his parents, seeing them almost daily until their deaths, he took care of his aunt living alone on the family farm in Yale, he took care of his two daughters, building and remodeling their homes. He was a perfectionist and craftsman. Victor loved to build and take care of things. He was happy and very patient. He was blessed with common sense and the knowledge of how things worked. He kept most things simple, organized and tidy. He sought the advice of others, learned from mistakes, got help when he needed it, and above all listened to his own inner voice, which was guided by goodness and grace.

Victor was preceded in death by his wife, Harriet Giroux Meyer; one child, Stephen Meyer; his parents, Donas (Mullen) Meyer and Alfred F. Meyer; his sister, Freda Mae (Meyer) Guild; and his brother, Orville F. Meyer.

He is survived by two daughters, Susan Meyer Yarbro (husband Dennis) of the home, and Roxana Leonard (husband Joe) of Norman; two grandchildren, Josh and Mitchell; and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to thank the staff at Norman Regional Hospital for the outstanding care given to the Meyer family for over 80 years.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 12, 2020, at Havenbrook Funeral Home in Norman. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Norman I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
