Funeral services for Mr. Deaune McElhaney, age 85, and a lifelong resident of Norman will begin at 10:00 am Monday, July 30, 2012 in The Chapel of the Havenbrook Funeral Home, 3401 Havenbrook Street in Norman.

The McElhaney family will receive friends from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Sunday, July 29, 2012 at the Havenbrook Funeral Home.

Deaune was born March 18, 1927 the son of Benjamin Franklin and Retta “Addie” (Andrews) McElhaney.  He passed away Tuesday evening, July 24, 2012 at the Norman Regional Hospital.
Deaune was raised in Norman, attending the Norman Public Schools, graduating from Norman High School in 1946.  He was a gifted athlete, excelling in high school sports, especially track.
After his high school graduation, Deaune enrolled at the University of Oklahoma. Following two years at OU, Deaune, following his heart, asked Miss Pat Ogle to marry him. The couple was united in marriage on June 30th, 1949 in Norman, Oklahoma. Deaune completed his undergraduate degree in 1958 at Central State University (now the University of Central Oklahoma) in Edmond, earning a Bachelor of Science in Education.            

Continuing his education, Deaune earned his Master of Education from the University of Oklahoma in one year, graduating in 1959. Needless to say, Deaune was an avid OU fan!
           
During his time in college, Deaune polished his talent as a vocalist, singing in the OU Men’s Glee Club and leading music in churches. Deaune had a fine tenor voice.
Deaune served as an Educator more than 24 years in the Oklahoma City Public School System, retiring in 1983. 
During his retirement, Deaune enjoyed reading cowboy and western books and tending to his tomato plants in his garden.  Deaune had a servant heart and was most happy when he was with his family whom he adored very much.   He enjoyed spending time with people, often lending a helping hand when it was needed. e will be forever be remembered as a kind and thoughtful gentleman. Deaune was a member of the First Baptist Church of Norman. 

Survivors include his wife, Pat McElhaney of Norman; three sons; Rick McElhaney and his wife, Sandy of Apache, OK, Jody McElhaney and his wife, Denice of Oklahoma City, Shaun McElhaney and his wife, Tracy of Purcell; two daughters; Debby Clark and her husband, Stan of Norman, and Shana Brown of Norman; 14 grandchildren; Shane McElhaney and his wife, Shawna of Elgin, Cody McElhaney and his wife, Holly of Apache, Cory McElhaney and his wife, Christine of Bolivar, MO, Lacey McElhaney of Sterling, Taylor McElhaney of Oklahoma City, Drew McElhaney of Oklahoma City, Carl Owen of Purcell, Morgan McElhaney of Purcell, Wesley McElhaney of Purcell, Brian Clark and his wife, Kaleen of Lexington, Kacey Clark of Noble, Aaron Brown and his wife, Brittany of Lexington, Ashley Monse and her husband, Dalton of Norman and Scotty Brown of Norman; nine great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Deaune was preceded in death by his parents; one son-in-law, Jody Brown; three brothers, Ben McElhaney, Ray McElhaney, and J.D. McElhaney; and four sisters; Lottie Jenkins, Lucille Frogge, Robbie Locke, and Dorothy McElhaney.

Memorial donations may be made in memory of Deaune Ellis McElhaney to the Noble Public Library, 204 North 5th Street, Noble, Oklahoma 73068.

Burial will follow in the I.O.O.F Cemetery in Norman.  Arrangements for Deaune and his family were been placed in the care of the Vice family at the Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman.
