NORMAN — John Phillip Jewell passed away at home July 30, 2010. He was born to Janie B. Dishman Jewell and John Earl Jewell on July 17, 1932 in Kansas City, MO.
He attended Kansas City Schools and graduated at age 16. He joined the US Navy where he served for 10 years. He made a round-the-world tour on the USS Tarawa, USS Hancock and USS Bennington to the far east during the Korean Conflict. Returning to civilian life, he worked in the electrician’s union, IBEW Local 1141. He also taught the apprenticeship program. He supervised the electrical work on the new construction of the Sooner Fashion Mall until he had a heart attack in 1974.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Rob and Don; sister, Alice White and daughter, Mary Jewell.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Jewell of the home; daughter, Jane Clark and Rusty Clark, daughter, Alice Jewell and John Siekerski; son, Eddie Jewell and wife Peg, son, John and wife Erin and Jerry; also by his twin brother, Jerry Jewell and wife Nadine, brother, Ed Jewell of Norman; sisters, Mary Smitson from Norman and Marj Monroe of San Diego, CA; 9 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and lots of friends.

Graveside services will be held 10:00 AM, Monday, August 2, 2010 at Norman IOOF Cemetery, Norman, OK. Services are under the direction of John M. Ireland Funeral Home and Chapel, Moore, OK.
