Henson , Evelyn M., 92, passed away Thursday, Jan. 6, 2011, in Norman, Okla.

She was born Sept. 24, 1918, in Noble, Okla., to Jacob M. and Rosa M. (Fuzzell) Shobert. She was united in marriage with John Wallace Henson on July 30, 1939 in Norman, Okla.

Evelyn was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Norman, serving many years as a Sunday School teacher and greeter, and with the church's mission to International families in Norman. She was a volunteer and historian for the Norman Regional Hospital Auxiliary and volunteered over 4,000 hours.

Evelyn is survived by two sons, John W. Henson Jr. and wife Elaine of Norman and Jim L. Henson and wife Diane of Hilton Head Island, S.C.; two brothers, Alva Shobert of Noble, Okla. and Hugh Shobert and wife Leoma of Carrollton, Ky.; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Wallace Henson Sr.; two brothers, Pleas Shobert and Newton Shobert and two sisters, Gracie Shobert and Alta Mae Fore.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011, at Havenbrook Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Viewing will only be during visitation at Havenbrook Funeral Home, 3401 Havenbrook Street, Norman, Oklahoma.

Memorial gifts may be made to First Baptist Church, Norman, for the Edna McMillan State Missions Offering.

Services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 14, 2011, at First Baptist Church, 211 West Comanche St., Norman, Okla., with interment following in the IOOF Cemetery, Norman under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home.

John W. Henson, 90, of Norman, Oklahoma, died Thursday, October 30, 2008, at Norman Regional Hospital. Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 P.M., Monday, November 3, 2008, at First Baptist Church in Norman.

Interment will follow at the Norman I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Norman, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman, Oklahoma.

Mr. Henson was born July 30, 1918, in Stella, Oklahoma, to Orville John and Maggie
Matilda (Puckett) Henson. His family moved to Norman in 1922 when he was 4 years old. He graduated from Norman High School and attended the University of Oklahoma. He married Evelyn Mary Shobert on July 30, 1939, in Norman. Mr. Henson was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during World War II from 1944 to 1946. After working for Long Bell Lumber company for fifteen years, he retired as property management supervisor for Home Industries Inc. in 1980. Mr. Henson was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church of Norman where he served as a deacon. For many years he consistently enjoyed serving as a volunteer in the First Baptist Church's Family Life Center. Mr. Henson directed the activities of the Association of Baptist Builders in building new churches and remodeling existing churches in numerous states for the Southern Baptist Convention. He was president of the Brotherhood Association and served as a leader for many years
in the young men's organization, the Royal Ambassadors. He received the "Award of Merit" from the International Legion of Royal Ambassador Leaders for his dedicated personal involvement in leading young men and boys to God through Christ. His service to the Royal Ambassadors exceeded fifty years, and included counseling at the summer camp "Camp Hudgins" for over twenty-five years.

Mr. Henson was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Maggie Henson, and sister, Anna Ruth Paul.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn, of the home; two sons, John W. Henson, Jr. of Norman; Jim L. Henson of Hilton Head Island, SC; grandchildren, Kelly Henson, Jamie Barnes, Jennifer Murer, Ashley Henson, David Henson and Teresa Schuster; great-grandchildren; Thomas Henson, Elijah Henson, Spencer Barnes, Marcus Henson, Parker Schuster and Connor Schuster.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Edna MacMillan Home Mission Fund, c/o First Baptist Church of Norman, 211 West Comanche, 73069.
