Henry C. Hensel, 74, of Norman, OK passed away August 22, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. 

Henry was born on December 2, 1941 in Dallas, TX to Henry R. and Vera Hensel.  Henry grew up in Norman and was a Newspaper boy as well as an employee at Sooner Dairy.  He was a proud Boy Scout earning the rank of Eagle Scout thru McFarlin United Methodist Church, of which he was a lifetime member.  Henry graduated from Norman H.S. and attended O.U.  Henry proudly entered the U.S. Navy and served 30 years, retiring in 1993 after being a Navy Photographer and received the Purple Heart for his service in Viet Nam.

Henry was a member of many organizations, including United States Junior Chamber (Jaycees), the Norman Masonic Lodge, Norman V.F.W. and various Genealogical and Historical Societies and was an Officer in the Sons of the American Revolution.  

After his retirement from the US Navy, Henry worked for 17 years at Wal-Mart, was the owner of The Memorabilia Corner and TMC Photo.  Henry loved model railroading and working in his gardens.  In 1980, Henry was awarded the August Deitz Award for outstanding achievement in research and writing of Confederate Philately.

Henry met and married the love of his life, Sandra Lynn (Gross) Hensel, on June 13, 1981 at Andrews Air Force Base.  Together they shared a wonderful life full of special memories that Sandra will forever cherish.

Henry is survived by his loving wife, Sandra; one son, Richard Wheeler; one daughter, Lynne Marie Chandler; eight grandchildren, Iesha Renee, Caleb Thomas, Adyson Claire, Charles Henry, Temperance Aries, Conner Patrick, Mikayla Marie and Caragh Caitlin. 

He was preceded in death by his parents.  

Visitation will be 12:00p.m. – 8:00p.m., Friday, August 26, 2016 at Havenbrook Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 6-8 PM. 

Services to celebrate his life will be 10:00 am, Saturday, August 27, 2016 at the Chapel of Havenbrook Funeral Home in Norman with burial to follow at I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Norman.
