Barbara Grandfield Heatley, 87, passed on Wednesday, August 3, 2011.
She was born May 31, 1924 in
Wichita, Kansas to Hazel LaMar and Clayton E. Grandfield. Barbara grew up along
the eastern seaboard and attended Miss Harcum's Finishing School for Young
Ladies in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania before transferring to the University of
Oklahoma to be near family during World War II. She completed her studies in
music, earning the degree of B.F.A. with an emphasis on piano.
Barbara was an independent financial investor for over 30 years. She was a
member of the Oklahoma City Ladies Music Club, Chi Omega sorority, and a past
president of The Oklahoma City Shakespeare Society. Further, she proudly
remained a life-long member of the G.O.P. Barbara began playing the piano at an
early age. She made her musical debut at age14 and her social debut at age 18 in
Coral Gables, Florida. She continued to play the piano as well as the harp
throughout her life. She was active in community events and social events,
generously volunteering her time teaching piano to orphan girls at Blinn House
and leading her elder daughter's Girl Scout troop. She closely followed
business, politics and current events.
Barbara is survived by daughters, Elionne LaMar Walker of Houston, Texas and
Melissa Ann (neé Moore) Jones and husband Jim of Norman; three grandchildren,
Alexandra Zoé Belden of Houston, Texas, and Austin Thomas Jones and Alaina Ann
Jones, both of Norman.
She is preceded in death by her parents and
grandparents, Della and W.D. LaMar.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 8, 2011 in the Chapel
of the Havenbrook Funeral Home with
interment following in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Arrangements are under the
direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home.
