Alice H. Harris
of Norman, Oklahoma, passed away Tuesday May 3, 2016, at the age of 98.
She was born September 25, 1917, in Davis, Oklahoma, to Harry Newton Horner and
Mary Rice Horner. She graduated from Davis High School in 1935 and continued her
education at the Kansas City Conservatory of Music, the University of Michigan,
and the University of Illinois, receiving a Bachelor of Music degree followed by
a Masters of Music degree in Musicology. She was on the piano faculty at the
Collage of the Pacific in Stockton, California, before opening a private studio
in Seattle, Washington, and later, in Norman, Oklahoma.
She was active in civic affairs, including being a Board member for Cimarron
Circuit Opera Company, for the Civic Music Association of Oklahoma City, for the
Norman Concert Series, and for the Salvation Army. She was also a member of the
Salvation Army Auxiliary and the Retired Military Wives.
She is preceded in death by her husband, William G. Harris of Norman, and her two brothers, Harry Horner and Edwin P. Horner of Waco, Texas.
She is survived by two sons, David L. Moore of Seattle, Washington, and Michael B. Moore of Wenatchee, Washington, as well as her three stepchildren, Barbara Harris Brant of Denver, Colorado, Martha Harris of Arlington, Virginia, and Dr. Alice Harris of Athens, Georgia, and their children.
In lieu of flowers, please contribute in her memory to a local charity of your choice. Graveside services will be held 10:00AM Saturday, May 14, 2016 at Norman IOOF Cemetery.
