Naoma (Coleman) Fuson

Naoma Fuson passed peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, February 8, 2020, in Cameron Park, CA, after a hard fought battle with Alzheimer's. Born July 5, 1929, in Comanche, OK, she was first of two children born to William and Katie Coleman. The family lived in the Duncan area throughout Naoma's early years before eventually moving to Wellington, TX, where she attended high school and played for the Skyrocket's basketball team. She attributed that experience to her later love for the Oklahoma City Thunder.

After graduation, she worked in the local Wellington bank as a teller. In 1954, she met and married Frank Fuson Jr, also of Wellington. They had two sons and moved often as Frank served in the Air Force. They settled in Norman in 1964, to be close to Frank's brother, Lonnie and his newlywed, Carol, who encouraged her to attend the university and also became lifelong "sisters". Naoma attended the University of Oklahoma and received two degrees, including a master's in guidance and counseling. She worked in the Moore public school system as a counselor until her retirement.

She enjoyed traveling, visiting with family and friends, as well as attending an occasional Thunder game. She was also an avid Sooner fan, married to a lifelong Longhorn and was never in the license tag business.

Naoma was preceded in passing by Frank, her husband of 54 years; her son, Jeffrey Craig of Norman; as well as her brother, William Alan Coleman of Duncan.

She is survived by her son, Larry (wife Pam) of Cameron Park, CA; five grandchildren, William Fuson (great grandchildren, River and Alice) of Norman, Melinda Fuson (husband Trevor) of Edmond, Erik Fuson (wife Jules) of Denver, Tim Fuson of Cameron Park, CA, and Katherine Fuson of San Diego; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Naoma was a long term member of The First Christian Church where she attended faithfully and volunteered her time.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday March 6, 2020, at Havenbrook. Funeral Home in Norman. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2020, at First Christian Church of Norman. Reverend Gary Hardwick and Reverend David Spain will officiate.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to either NAMI (The National Alliance on Mental Illness) or the Alzheimer's Foundation of America. Naoma would prefer the flowers.
