Lloyd J. Freeman passed away August 9, 2012.
Lloyd better known to many friends
and family as Junior was born June 24, 1923 in Norman, Oklahoma to Roger
Lloyd and Mary Lessie (Hames) Freeman. Lloyd attended Norman schools
until he joined the Army National Guard in 1940. He was discharged in
1941. He enlisted in the Army Air Corp. in 1942 and was a ball turret
gunner on a B-17 in WWII. He flew 6 completed missions from England
prior to March 6, 1944, when during the “Raid over Berlin” his plane was
shot down by the Germans. Lloyd was taken a Prisoner-of-War (POW). He
was held in various POW camps for 14 months until May, 1945.
During his time in service he earned the following awards and
decorations: The Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Medal,
Prisoner of War Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Medal,
European-African-Middle Eastern Medal with One Battle Star, and World
War II Victory Medal.
Afterwards he returned to Norman where he met and married the love of
his life, Helen White, on January 25, 1946. Lloyd started working as a
letter carrier for the U.S. Post Office and then as a rural mail carrier
for many years until his retirement in 1978. He helped raise two
children and was a role model and hero to many nieces, nephews, and
family friends. He enjoyed spending time at the lake teaching young
people how to water ski and fish and always enjoyed taking his turn at
water skiing also. He also enjoyed and attended many OU Athletic events
over the years. Lloyd was a long-time member of University Christian
Church where he served as a deacon for many years. He was a member of
the Ex-POW Central Oklahoma Chapter.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Marie Freeman.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Helen; son, Roger and wife
Cindy; daughter, Becky Burton and husband Paul; grandsons, Turner
Freeman, Casey Freeman and wife Morgin, and Chris Burton; sisters,
Myrtle Bowers, Ruby Marsh, Dorothy Strickland and Sara Beth Dees and
husband Jim; brother, Ed Freeman; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to University Christian Church
Building Fund, 616 Bud Wilkinson Dr., Norman, OK 73069 or a charity of
your choice.
Visitation will be held 1:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Sunday, August 12, 2012
and 9:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m., Monday, August 13, 2012 with the family
greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Havenbrook Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at
the University Christian Church of Norman with
interment following the I.O.O.F. Cemetery of Norman.
Arrangements for Lloyd and his family were placed in the care of the
Vice Family at the Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman.

Helen White Freeman, 89, of Norman passed away Saturday, February 8, 2014.
She was born January 13, 1925 in
Cleburne, Texas, to Temple M. and Bennie Mae (Harris) White.
Helen was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was
always kind and sweet to everyone that she came in contact
with. Helen will be missed deeply.
She was preceded in death by her parents, T.M. and Bennie
Mae White; her husband, Lloyd J. Freeman; and her sisters,
Wynell Bavaret and Bobbie Cantrell.
Helen is survived by her
son, Roger Freeman and wife, Cindy; her daughter Becky
Burton and husband, Paul; and her grandchildren, Turner
Freeman, Casey Freeman and wife, Morgin, and Christopher
Burton.
Memorials may be made in memory of Helen to the University
Christian Church Building Fund, 616 Bud Wilkinson Drive,
Norman, OK., 73069, or the American Cancer Society, 6525 N.
Meridian, Suite 110, Oklahoma City, OK., 73116.
Arrangements for Helen and her family were placed in the
care of the Vice family at the Havenbrook Funeral Home of
Norman.
