J. B. DuFran, 88,
passed away June 13, 2015 in Norman, OK. Born April 27, 1927, to John Napoleon
DuFran and Jenny Bradshaw DuFran, he was raised in the Norman and Noble area,
and made Norman his home. He was proud to be a third generation Cleveland County
resident.
A 1948 graduate of Norman High School, J. B. played football and softball and
was an NHS Letterman and won State Championship. He married his high school
sweetheart, Dorothye Elizabeth McCall in 1948, and had one son, John.
After Dorothye's passing, J. B. married Margaret Crawley in 1999.
In 1974 he retired from the Oklahoma Army National Guard as Chief Warrant
Officer. During high school, he enlisted in the U. S. Army, and served, then
returned to complete his degree. As a World War II Veteran, he made the Honor
Flight with his son in 2012 to Washington, DC, to visit the WWII Memorial.
He was a Charter Member of St. Stephen Methodist Church. In later years, he
enjoyed the Senior Group at Trinity Lutheran Church, as well as the NHS monthly
gatherings with former classmates.
Fishing, traveling, gardening, woodworking, and bragging about his grandchildren
kept J. B. active. He enjoyed his grandchildren's activities, making every band
concert and birthday gathering, as well as many of their soccer games.
J. B. was preceded by his parents, one sister, and wives Dorothye and Margaret.
He is survived by his son, John DuFran and wife, Mary, and grandchildren: Summer
DuFran McGuire and husband, Kurt; grandson, Zachary Martin DuFran and wife,
Christie; and granddaughter, Sabrina Johnette DuFran. Great grandchildren
include: Cooper Walter McGuire, Myla Omega DuFran and Bryson John McGuire.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, June 18, at Havenbrook Funeral Home with
interment following at IOOF Cemetery in
Norman.
Memorials can be made in memory of J. B. to Meals on Wheels of Norman.
