Serelda Gay Cody
passed away on Friday, November 11, 2011 in her home surrounded by her family.
She was born March 1, 1943 in Seminole, Oklahoma to Leo Claude and Blanche
Louise (Smith) Kneeland. She married Derrill Cody on January 25, 1963 in
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and was looking forward to celebrating their 49th year
of marriage.
Serelda loved her family and especially her grandchildren. Serelda was a proud
member of the Seminole High School Marching Band. She attended Oklahoma College
for Women in Chickasha, Oklahoma. She was a homeroom mother many times for her
children. Serelda was a lifelong Sooner fan, enjoying all of the Sooner sports
and never had to be asked if she wanted to go to a game, she was the first one
out of the door. She was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing with her husband.
They played together every summer in Colorado and she had her prized hole-in-one
at the Trails Golf Club in Norman. She was an avid reader of mysteries and
loved crossword puzzles. She loved the peacefulness of sitting on her deck in
the mountains near Colorado Springs looking at Pike's Peak. Most of all, she
loved and had a close personal relationship with the Lord. She loved to read
His Word and her daily devotional.
Serelda is survived by her loving husband, Derrill; one son, Jeff Cody and
wife, Jenifer of Dallas, Texas; one daughter, Kendal Stegmann and husband, Scott
of Norman; one brother, Larry Kneeland and wife Helen of Claremore, Oklahoma;
grandchildren, Sam Cody, Morgan Cody, Chloe Stegmann and Sofia Stegmann; and a
host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her
parents; brother, Fred Kneeland and sister, Kay Hutchinson.
Memorial services will be held 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at
McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church, 419 S. University Boulevard of
Norman. Arrangements for Serelda and her family were placed in the care of the
Vice Family at Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman. In lieu of flowers donations
may be made in Serelda's name to the McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church
Memorial Fund.
