Vera I (Walker) Chesser

Vera Chesser, 99, of Norman,
OK passed away on Saturday, March 26th, 2016 at her home.
Vera was born on May 7, 1916 in Newcastle, OK to J.T. and Millie Walker. She
attended school in Chickasha, Ok and eventually came to Norman where she
completed high school at Norman High. Vera married R.D. Chesser in November
1938. She later trained to become a medical technologist and worked at Norman
Regional Hospital for 20+ years. Vera was the last surviving charter member of
Immanuel Baptist Church in Norman, OK where she loved teaching Sunday school for
the 2-3 year olds. She also loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren very
much and attended all of their school and sporting events. Vera was a lifelong
caregiver for many family members and friends.
Vera was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, R.D. Chesser; three
brothers: Jodie, Woody, and J.T. Walker.
She was survived by one
daughter, Dee Ann Gill and husband Carl; one sister, Addie Mae Dickerson; two
granddaughters, Carla Dee Garling and husband, Charles and Kristi Ann Slawson
and her fiancé Jim Standifer; two great grandchildren, Tyler Garling and Kaleb
Slawson; nephews: Jimmy Dickerson and wife Sharon, Wayne Walker and wife Sandy,
Tom Walker; niece, Maxine Huffelfinger and many other family members and
friends.
Viewing will be on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 beginning at 12:00 with family
receiving friends from 6:00pm-8:00 pm at Havenbrook Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at Immanuel Baptist Church, 1777 E. Robinson, Norman at 10:00 am with burial to follow at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Norman, OK.
