Longtime resident
of Norman, Alma Jean Burkett, passed away on the evening of November 23, 2015 at
the age of 82 years. She was born in Frackville, Pennsylvania in 1933, the
daughter of the late John and Minnie Walters.
On June 7, 1952 she married the love of her life, Glenn W. Burkett and together
they shared 56 years of matrimony before his passing in 2008. A devoted Wife,
Mother and Nana, Alma always put her family first and would do anything for
them!
She loved to read a good book and before her health declined she also enjoyed
volunteering at the library. Alma also liked sports and followed the Sooner and
the Cowboys but her passion was found in rooting for the Boston Red Sox!
Alma is survived by her daughter, Jana Chicoine; her son, Robert Burkett and
wife Teresa; her granddaughter, Alyson Shives and husband Jeremy; her beloved
great grandchildren, Caity Chicoine and Lola Shives; her brother, George
Walters; her sisters, Betty Waitz and husband Jack and Margaret Tench and
husband Bill; her brothers-in-law, George Burkett (and wife Pat) and Jerome
Brady (and wife May); her sisters-in-law, Betty Bright, Janet Koup (and husband
Ray) and Alice Hoke; as well as many, many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Alma was preceded in death by her son,
Randy Burkett; her sisters, Shirley McGarvey, Margie Craft and Claire Barb; and
her brother, Eddie Walters.
Alma’s family invites you to a celebration of her life to be held at 11 a.m. on
Saturday, December 5, 2015 at the Norman I.O.O.F. Cemetery. In lieu of flowers,
the family suggests that contributions be made to one of her favorite charities,
the St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or

Glenn W. Burkett, 81, of Norman, Oklahoma, died Tuesday, November 18, 2008, at home in Norman, Oklahoma.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday,
November 21, 2008,
at Norman I.O.O.F. Cemetery with Chaplain Tom Amos officiating. Services are
under the
direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman, Oklahoma.
Mr. Burkett was born September 29, 1927, in Middletown, Pennsylvania, to George
W. and
Catherine (Anstadt) Burkett. He graduated from Hershey High School in Hershey,
Pennsylvania.
Later he attended college in Riverside, California. He married Alma J. Walters
on June 7,1952, in
Maryland. He transferred from Olmstead Air Force Base to Tinker Air Force Base
and moved to
Norman in 1966. He retired from civil service at Tinker in 1983 and then opened
his own business.
Mr. Burkett loved to fly and got his pilots license in 1989.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II. He was a member of the Free Masons. Mr. Burkett was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.
Mr. Burkett was preceded in death by parents, and son, Randall.
Survivors include his wife, Alma, of the home; son, Robert Glenn Burkett and wife, Teresa, of Tulsa, OK; daughter, Jana C. Chicoine; two brothers, George Burkett and Jerry Brady; three sisters, Alice Hoke, Janet Koup and Betty Bright; granddaughter, Alyson Chicoine and great-granddaughter, Caitlyn Chicoine;
