Funeral services for Mildred E. “Mickey” Brewster, age 88, of Norman, OK will begin at 10 am Friday, August 10, 2012 at Havenbrook Funeral Home, 3401 Havenbrook Street in Norman, with Reverend Bruce Ingram officiating.

Visitation will be from 1:00 pm – 8:00 pm Wednesday, August 8, 2012, and 8:00 am – 8:00 pm Thursday, August 9, 2012 at Havenbrook Funeral Home, with the family greeting friends from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm on Thursday.

Mickey was born on April 28, 1924, in Norman, OK, the daughter of Ed and Mel Vina Harmon and the youngest of 10 siblings. She died in her home on Thursday, August 2, 2012, following by 45 days her husband of 68 years, Albert Henry “Al” Brewster, Jr. They are now reunited in heaven, enjoying life in the presence of their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Mickey and Al were united in marriage on September 3, 1943, in Norman. She was a loving wife and mother and devoted grandmother. In past years she was a prolific seamstress, making all of her and her daughters’ dresses as well as slip covers and draperies for her home. When the grandchildren came along, she enjoyed sewing for them. She was active throughout her life, enjoying softball and roller skating in her youth. In fact, she met her husband Al while roller skating.

Mickey loved people and was quick to tease and joke. For many years, she enjoyed hosting the annual Christmas potluck for her women’s group from church, playing the card game Chickenfoot with her husband and friends, and joining Sunday school classmates for Sunday lunch. Mickey was a founding member of the Bethel Baptist Bethelaires Choir and long-time volunteer at Norman Regional Hospital.

A lifelong Norman resident, Mickey was born on her family’s farm near the modern intersection of NE 36th and Alameda - considered east of town at that time - and grew up there as well as on Himes Street and Elm Avenue. She raised her daughters on Flood Street and lived her last four decades on Cypress Avenue where her home was the heart of four generations.

She is survived by daughters Karen Strawn of Elgin, OK, Linda Alleman Kennedy and husband Bill Kennedy of Edmond, OK, and Joyce Hopkins and husband Gary of Norman; sister Winnie Harmon of Edmond and brothers Lester Harmon and Franklin “Frank” Harmon and wife Leona of Norman; grandchildren Laurie Goree and husband Chris of Norman and their children Daniel and Anna, John Alagood and wife Kirsten of Coppell, TX and their child Sarah, Cindy Puckett and husband Chad of Oklahoma City and their children Madelyn, Rachel Kate, and Caroline, and Natalie Claflin and husband Brandon of Tulsa, OK and their children Ben, Zac, and Claire; step grandchildren Alan Hopkins and wife Amy Beth of Austin, TX, Richard Hopkins of San Antonio, TX, and Jeni Grant and husband Dallas of Austin, TX; and many other beloved family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, sisters Mary Florence Hutchins, Iva Harmon White, Margaret Simonson, and Geneva Harmon and brothers John Harmon and Charley Harmon, sons-in-law Bruce Alleman and Johnny Strawn, and granddaughter Jennifer Lynn Summers.

Memorials may be made in memory of Mickey Brewster to InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, 1212 Leslie Lane, Norman, OK 73069.

Arrangements for Mickey and her family were placed in the care of the Vice family at the Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman. Online condolences may be shared at www.havenbrookfuneralhome.com.
