Phillip F. Beeler died December 13, 2010 at his home with his wife Pat and family by his side.
He
was born in Tulsa, OK on December 3, 1929 to Dr. Thomas Taylor and Mary Frances
Beeler. After the death of his parents, at the age of 15, he went to live with
his sister Mildred and family in Williamsville, New York. He returned to Norman
OK to complete his senior year with classmates at Norman High School while
living in a boarding house. Following graduation, he joined the United States
Army and served in Korea. He then became a Cadet at the Citadel in South
Carolina. After completing his first year, he again returned to Norman, OK to
study engineering at O.U. He went to O.U. on a track scholarship, lettering as
a quartermiler & sprinter. He graduated from O.U. with a Bachelors Degree in
General Engineering in 1954.
Phil married in 1953 but the marriage ended in divorce. He married his wife Pat
on December 1, 1973 in El Paso, TX. They moved to Norman, OK in 1976 and
established an independent Oil & Gas Company. The company continued to grow and
Phil gained a reputation in the Oklahoma Panhandle, as an expert “Wildcatter”.
Phil was very involved at First Presbyterian Church as an Elder, Head of
Stewardship and Treasurer.
At O.U. he was a track official for many years and served on the Board of
Visitors for the Arts. He was an avid fan of O.U. Football and Basketball.
Phil had a massive stroke in 1997 that left him with right side paralysis and
the loss of speech. Nevertheless, always maintaining a positive attitude, he
continued to oversee the management of his company, thus continuing to provide
for his family.
Phil was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Mildred, Georgeann, Tom and
Jack; children, Phillip Jr. (Flip) and Joan of Cystic Fibrosis.
He is survived by his wife Pat; son, Sims McHarry Beeler; stepchildren, Debbie
Tune, Diane Brown, and Curt Vasey; grandchildren, Krista Stubbs, Lindsay Wood,
Chad Vasey, Megan Vasey, Kailey Brown, nine great grandchildren and several
nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M. Friday, December 17, 2010 at First
Presbyterian Church, 555 South University Blvd. in Norman, OK. 73069 with
interment following in I.O.O.F.
Cemetery, Norman, OK under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home of
Norman, OK.
