Fred Bassett, 89, of Norman, Oklahoma, died Sunday, March 7, 2004, in Norman. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 9, 2004, at the Havenbrook Funeral Home Chapel in Norman, Oklahoma.
Interment will follow at the Norman I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Norman. Bearers will be David Millington, Douglas Millington, Jeff Millington, Will Millington, Brad Bassett and Greg Wright.
Services are under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman.
Mr. Bassett was born July 3, 1914, to Thomas E. and Betty Loyd Bassett in Bradley, Oklahoma.
He graduated from high school in Gracemont, Oklahoma.
He married Jewel Feaster on May 26, 1933, in Cordell, Oklahoma.
Fred came to Norman, Oklahoma, in October of 1967, from San Angelo, Texas. He was a business owner, having owned an auto dealership and later a John Deere dealership.
He loved his grandchildren, great grandchildren and working with youth in sports programs, especially Little League Baseball. He was an avid O.U. sports fan, and loved baseball, basketball, football and other sports.
Fred was a member of the McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church and the McFarlin Methodist Mens Prayer Breakfast Group. He was a past member of the Norman Chamber of Commerce and Kiwanis Club.
Mr. Bassett was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Jo Nell Bassett Millington; five sisters and seven brothers.
He is survived by his wife, Jewel, of the home; one son; Fred E. Bassett and wife, Lynn, of Wichita Falls, Texas; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Send condolences online at Havenbrook Funeral Home.
