Sterling, Harold “Ray”, 65, passed away Friday, September 30, 2011 in Norman, Oklahoma.
He was born September 26, 1946 in Norman, Oklahoma to Paul
Sterling and Roberta “Cotton” (Ahrens) Sterling. Ray was united on
February 22, 1999 in Noble, Oklahoma to Bettie Sue Smith.
Ray served his country in the Army Reserves and was a rancher and an
area extension entomologist for over 40 years. Ray held many different
offices in several organizations starting with 4-H and FFA during his
high school years. He was also a member of the National and Oklahoma
Pest Control Association, the Cleveland County Farm Bureau Board, the
American Angus Association, the American Rifle Association and various
others. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, working with his livestock and
tinkering at the farm. He loved taking the grandchildren fishing and
socializing with his friends over a cup of coffee. Ray was a “good ole
boy” that never met a stranger and if anyone needed anything, Ray was
the man to call. He was a hard worker and knew the meaning of “work”
and his favorite sayings were “your burning daylight” and “hustle”.
Ray is survived by his wife, Bettie Sue Sterling of the home; daughter,
Jana Raye Sterling of Norman; two stepsons, William Schad Meldrum and
wife Johanna of Edmond and Andrew R. Meldrum of Fort Lauderdale, FL; one
brother, Paul D. Sterling, Jr. and wife Mary Belle of Kona, Hawaii; one
sister, Jenney L. Bonner and husband Gary of Norman; four grandchildren,
Garrett, Coit, Ashton and Makenna; and a host of relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and his stepfather, Ermil
Anderson.
Visitation will be held 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, October 2, 2011
at the Havenbrook Funeral Home, 3401 Havenbrook St. of Norman.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 3, 2011 in the
Memorial Presbyterian Church, 601 24th Ave. Southwest, Norman with
interment following in the
I.O.O.F. Cemetery of Noble.
