Virginia D. Morris, age 93, Lexington, passed away Saturday, September 24, 2016, at the Lexington Nursing Home.

Virginia Dale Duffy was born May 28, 1923 in Lexington, the oldest of 8 children born to Homer Duffy and Lola Mae (Claunch) Duffy. She grew up in Lexington where she attended school through the 11th grade, eventually graduating from Putnam City High School. She married a young man from Blanchard named Charlie Clifton Morris. She lived most of her life in Lexington and Hot Springs, AR, where they owned and trained race horses. In fact, Virginia was the 12th woman in the US to obtain a Thoroughbred Race Horse Owner and Trainer License. After Charlie passed away in a car accident, Virginia began working with the Hertz Corporation. She worked for more than 12 years, before a medical retirement after her heart attack. She has lived in Okla. City for the past several years. Virginia was a member of the United Methodist Church. She was the Resident Counselor for the Reding Senior Citizens Center for many years, a member of the South OKC Democrat Club and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was also very active in the Grandparents Program For Children with Disabilites. She also was a founding board member and an active member in the Alpha Okies for the last several years, and this was very dear to her heart. She will be dearly missed!

She was preceded in death by: Her husband, Charlie C. Morris; Her son, Homer Andrew Vaughn; Her parents, Homer and Lola Mae Duffy; Two sisters, Ida Mantooth and Delores Parrish and Two brothers, Charles Duffy and Richard Duffy.

Virginia leaves behind: Daughter-in-law, Mary Catherine Vaughn of Omaha, NE; 2 sisters, Joan Laughlin of Okla. City and Lola Margaret Womack and husband Don of Noble; Brother, Robert “Bob” Duffy of Norman; 2 grandchildren, Mary Andrea Arthur of Cocoa Beach, FL and David “Skip” Vaughn of Omaha, NE; 6 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild and a host of other family and friends.

Graveside Funeral Services are scheduled for 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 28, 2016, at the Noble I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Arrangements by Wilson-Little Funeral Home of Purcell. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alpha Okies, @ 10913 Woodbridge Rd, Okla. City, OK, 73162.
