Myrtle Harris age 98 of Norman, passed away Friday, March 22, 2013 at Norman Regional Hospital. Myrtle was born December 22, 1914 in Newcastle.

She was the 2nd child of six children born to Decator Elmer Birden and Venie Lee (Ketner). Myrtle grew up a farm girl living in the Newcastle community.

She attended school in Newcastle and later met and married John C. Harris. They were married on April 1, 1936 and made their first home in Newcastle. Years later, John found work in the oil field and for many years Myrtle traveled with him as he worked throughout the U. S. In the early 1960’s they moved to Norman and started their own business called “Harris Implement” selling and servicing farm equipment. Together they operated the business for nearly 30 years on Robinson St. in Norman before retiring. Myrtle was a member of Brookhaven Baptist Church in Norman. Throughout her life she enjoyed working in her yard and flower garden. She also enjoyed sewing and was especially gifted at sewing drapes and curtains.

She was preceded in death by: Parents: Elmer and Venie Birden, Husband: John Harris in 1995, Two sisters: Nola Cheatham and Oleta Wilson, Two brothers: Jesse Birden and Lawrence “Bud” Birden,

She is survived by: One sister: Wanda Alexander of Norman, Two nieces: Teresa Welch of Lone Grove and Susan Birden of New York, Two nephews: Rick Wilson of Blanchard and Larry Birden of Jones, OK. Many great and great great nieces and nephews Funeral services are 2:00 P.M. Monday, March 25, 2013 at Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel in Purcell. Interment will be at the Noble I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Noble, OK.
