Otis Burton Oliphant Jr.
March 2, 1933 - December 3, 2012
Mr. Oliphant was born to Otis Burton and Bonnie Lou (Wilson) Oliphant Sr. on March 2, 1933 in Norman. He departed this life on Dec. 3 at his home in Norman.
Otis attended school in Norman. He entered the U.S. Army on Feb. 9, 1953. He received an Honorable Discharge on March 21, 1961 as a SP4. He and Phyllis Moore were United in Marriage on Dec. 27, 1959 in Perry. They returned to their farm east of Norman and raised their family.
Otis was employed with Central State Hospital and later began the Oliphant Bro. Construction Co. with his brother David. David preceded him in death and Otis retired in 1996. Otis lived to fish and hunt. He and his family hunted for 22 straight years in Colorado and fished at the Arkansas River and Lake Texoma for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother David. Those who survive him include his wife Phyllis of 52 years, two sons and their families: Otis Gregory and wife Regina, their children Ryan and wife Micah and their family Hunter and Trenton, Shane and Macy, Chris Anderson and Staci; Steven Bradley and wife Melissa, their children Kelsey, Maddison, Steven and wife Angel, Christopher Seales and Blake Seales; one daughter and her family Kimberly Jones and husband Don, their children Dustin and wife Alicia and Dylan; two brothers: Charles and Linda Oliphant of Norman and Bobby Ray Oliphant of Norman and one sister, Margaret Jane Townsend of Norman.
The funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at McMahans Funeral Chapel with Rev. Gayland Cannon officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Maguire Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 to 7 p.m. today at McMahans Funeral Home.
