Funeral services for Mr. John E. Jennings, age 77, of Norman will be held at 10:00 am Monday, September 19, 2011 in The Chapel of the Havenbrook Funeral Home, 3401 Havenbrook Street in Norman with Pastor Ken Huddelston officiating.

John was born January 6, 1934 in Noble, Oklahoma the son of Luther and Onie (McCracken) Jennings.  He passed away early Thursday morning, September 15, 2011 at his home in Norman. 

John was raised in Noble, attending Noble Public Schools. He later was united in marriage to Miss Daveline Clark on March 19, 1955 in Norman. 

John became interested at an early age in commercial construction and as result owned and operated his own construction companies, Triad Construction and Norman General Contractors.  He continued his involvement in the construction business until retiring in 1991.

John was an avid NASCAR fan.  He owned and operated Norman Speedway in the early 1960's, where he and his family participated in  racing competitions. 

In retirement, John enjoyed following his great grandson, Jonathan, in all of his sporting events, gardening and taking care of his residential rental real estate holdings.  He loved spending mornings at Dara Marie's Bakery, a local business owned by his oldest daughter, Debbie and her husband, John, assisting them with various business tasks.  When he wasn't at Dara Maries, John would be helping his youngest daughter, Brenda, with her local business, Gracie Rays. 

A gentle and simple man, John had a compassionate heart for others.  He enjoyed helping people out of difficult situations and lending a helpful hand to anyone he could.

Survivors include his wife of more than 56 years, Daveline of home; two daughters; Debbie Wullich and her husband, John of Norman; and Brenda Rachal and her husband, Ricky of Norman; one son-in-law, Tim Smith of Norman; one brother, Earnest Jennings and his wife, Sylvia of Norman; three grandchildren; Penny Pelkey of Noble; Dara Rice and her husband, Travis of Norman; and Darcie McCabe and her husband, Luke of Norman; and five great grandchildren; Jonathan Pelkey, Aquella Gardner, Mason Rice, Emma Rice and Addison Rice.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Linda Smith on April 25, 2008 and two brothers, Donald Jennings and Darrell Jennings.

The Jennings family will greet friends from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Sunday, September 18, 2011 at the Havenbrook Funeral Home. 

Burial will conclude in the Fairview Maguire Cemetery in Noble.   Arrangements for John Jennings and his family were placed in the care of the Vice Family at Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman.
