Frances Inez Simmons age 83, of Lexington, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, July 15, 2018. She was born on December 24, 1934 in Lexington. Inez was the 5th child of eight children born to Roy Jason Thompson and Bertha Mamie (Steele) Thompson. Inez grew up on a farm, living S.E. of Lexington. As a young girl she learned how to work hard, milking cows, picking cotton and doing farm chores. She attended Lexington schools up to the eleventh grade, and then eloped to Los Alamos, New Mexico during her senior year. On Nov. 28, 1951 she married the love of her life, Albert Franklin Simmons. That following year they both graduated together from Los Alamos High School.
They made their home in Los Alamos where their four eldest children were born. Inez worked as a homemaker and as a courier at Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory, where Al was also employed. In 1959, they moved back to the Lexington, Purcell area where the two younger children were born.
Inez continued working as a homemaker and continued working outside of the home as well. For several years she worked in housekeeping at the McCurdy Clinic in Purcell. Then what started out as a hobby, she worked at Mid-America VoTech in Wayne for seven years, teaching genealogy. After leaving the VoTech, for many years she continued helping countless others in tracing their family roots. Inez later worked several years for the Creation Truth Foundation in Noble, and in her spare time she loved to baby sit her grandchildren.
Inez was a charter member of Rays of Life Church in Lexington. For over 50 years she was the church pianist. She also was the secretary for the Rays of Life Christian Academy. She had many talents. Inez enjoyed writing and even authored a book called “Springhill, A Place Called Home”. Her hobbies include, reading, sewing, cooking and baking.
