Wes Sawyer, age 65 of Wanette, passed away Monday, February 27, 2017, at the Norman Regional Hospital.
Wesley Andrew Sawyer was born May 4, 1951 in Anadarko, Oklahoma, the youngest of 2 children born to Phillip Andrew and Novalee (Myers) Sawyer. He was raised in Apache and attended school there, graduating in 1969. Wes answered the call to serve his country. He was a proud patriot and joined the United States Army. Wes served overseas in Germany and in other tours, before returning to Apache in 1977. He then moved to Norman for a few years before settling in the Lexington/Wanette area. Throughout the years, Wes worked in various trades and occupations. He was kind of a jack of all trades. His greatest years were spent on his land, caring for his animals, and farming and ranching. Wes was always busy doing something, and believed you never lay down when there’s something to do. Wes was impulsive, and a jokester and knew no stranger. In May of 2008, on a 1st time dinner date, Wes proposed to Gayle Lehman. He bought her clothes and they headed for Texas. It was a love story for the ages. Wes believed that family came first, and he showed them daily. He cherished Gayle and his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Wes was a wonderful husband and father, grandfather, brother, uncle and a true friend. He will be dearly missed!
He was preceded in death by: His son, Shane Wesley Sawyer and His mother, Novalee Sawyer.
Wes leaves behind: His wife, Gayle of the home; Children, Scott Sawyer and wife Kathy of Lexington, Joshua Sawyer and wife Amber of Stratford, Jessie Lehman and wife Renae of Wanette, Tina Lehman of Lexington, Shelly Langford and Jasique Hughes of Wanette and Amy Lehman and Manuel Esparza of Purcell; His father, Phillip Sawyer of Apache; Sister, Arlinda Fields and Larry of Bethany; 23 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and A host of other family and friends.
