Gene Monk, age 74 of Moore, left this worldly place to be with our Lord Jesus, Monday, July 16, 2018, at the Norman Regional Hospital.

Gene Louis Monk was born April 15, 1944 in Renton, Washington, the oldest of 9 children born to Earl Gotlieb Monk and Anna Elizabeth (Carlin) Monk. Gene and his younger brothers were place in Jeff’s Home in Seattle, WA, where he stayed until he was 18 years old. In 1962, he joined the United States Air Force, taking his basic training at Lackland Air Force Base and Tech training at Wichita Falls, TX. Gene was stationed at Tinker Air Force Base in ground maintenance, staying stateside through the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in April of 1965. Gene was employed at TAFB from 1965-2000. He worked 28 years in the turbine blade rework and inspection unit and 7 years in the bearing inspection unit. In 1979, he met the love of his life, Sheila Briscoe, a red head who had just started working at Tinker. They met at a hole in the wall, a.k.a. the snack bar. They struck up a conversation and somehow fishing was mentioned. The next 25 years is a history of fishing and hunting on weekends and vacation times. In 2009, they were married, and though the fishing and hunting days were behind them, they spent the last few years enjoying each other’s company. Gene was dearly loved and will be greatly missed!

He was preceded in death by:

          His parents,        Earl and Anna Monk;

          His brother,                   William (Bill) Monk and

          Two sisters,         Louise Sylvester and Ruth Harr.

Gene is survived by:
          His loving wife,   Sheila Monk of the home;

          Daughter,            Evalia Johnson,

          Step-daughter,     Gaylon Moore,

          Grandchildren,    John Heagleer and wife Tonya and their 6 kids,

                                      Davonna Fhormolin and husband Jake and their 2 kids,

                                      Laura Moore Gripp and her 3 kids,

                                      Joseph Moore and wife Wendy and their 2 kids;

          Siblings,              Robert (Bob) Monk and wife Mary Jane,

                                      Paul Monk, Mary Dunphy and husband Barry,

                                      David (Pete) Monk and John Monk and wife Connie;

          Mother-in-law,    Juanita Briscoe;

          Sisters-In-Law, Gay Newville and husband Mike and Marlene Monk and

A host of other family and friends.

Graveside funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Friday, July 20, 2018, at the Lexington Cemetery.
