Vernon McCaslin age 95 of Lexington, went home to be with his Lord, Friday, May 16, 2014 at the Lexington Nursing Home. He was born November 29, 1918 in Luther, Oklahoma. He was the 5th child of 11 children born to William Jackson McCaslin and Nellie Susan (Attebery) McCaslin. Vernon grew up a farm boy living near Wellston, Oklahoma. He attended the Wellston schools until had to quit after the 9th grade to work and help provide for his family. After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Vernon was drafted into the U.S. Army at the age of 23. He proudly served his country four years during WWII and was honorably discharged at the end of the war. Four days after he got back he married Laveta Morgan a young woman from OKC. They were married on December 11, 1945 and lived in OKC for two years before buying 80 acres NE of Lexington in 1947. Vernon and Laveta raised one daughter, Mildred and remained living in Lexington until their deaths. When he first moved to Lexington, Vernon farmed and worked various jobs. In 1953 he began working for the South Naval Base in Norman, then transferred to the FAA in OKC where he worked as an aircraft mechanic for many years. After retiring in 1981, Vernon continued farming, raising cattle and growing big gardens. In his younger years, Vernon enjoyed bird hunting, especially hunting quail. In his later years he enjoyed gardening and going to the Purcell Senior Citizens for noon meals, to visit with friends and play dominoes. Throughout his years he enjoyed reading poetry(committing many poems to memory, as well as scripture), and telling stories. Vernon was a loving and faithful husband.

He was happily married to Laveta for 49 years before she passed away in 1994. He then married Elizabeth Nadine Cruse and was married to her for 12 years before she passed away in 2007. Again Vernon remarried. This time he married Evelyn Bernice Thompson, and she also preceded him in death in 2010. Vernon was a faithful Christian and a charter member of the Memorial Assembly of God Church in Purcell, established in 1948. He was a trustworthy deacon and taught Sunday school for many years. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by: Parents and three wives mentioned above, One step-daughter, Gay Van Schuyver; Four brothers, Cash, Loyd, Maurice and Ralph McCaslin; Four sisters, Ethel Willis, Juanita Brown, Vera Oxford and Olive Kriel;

He is survived by: Only child, Mildred Archer and husband Bob of Lexington; Two step-daughters, Linda Ashworth of Safford, NM, Linda Durbin and husband Dale of Purcell; One brother, Otis McCaslin and wife Agnes of Enid; One sister, Mary Beth Parker and husband Dale of Gustavus, Alaska; Two sisters-in-law, Judith McCaslin and Ann McCaslin; Two grandchildren, Bobby Archer of Lexington and Gwendolyn Pitt of OKC; Five great grandchildren, Alexander, Austin, Darian, Kaitlyn and Mycah. Also many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at Memorial Assembly of God Church in Purcell. Interment will be at 3:00 P.M. at the Lexington Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to World Challenge, Inc. P.O. Box 260, Lindale, TX 75771-0260.
