George M. Mauldin, Sr.

George Mauldin Sr. age 78 of Lexington, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday January 22, 2013. He was born May 24, 1934 in Oklahoma City. He was the 5th child of eight children born to Manon Mauldin and Gladys (Campbell) Mauldin. George grew up in South OKC and attended Capitol Hill Schools. At the age of 18, he enlisted into the U. S. Army and served in the 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina during the Korean Conflict. After serving three years he was honorably discharged and returned home to Oklahoma, settling in Norman. While living in Norman he met and later married the love of his life, Mary Spor. They were married on May 4, 1956 and this past year celebrated 56 years of marriage. One of George’s first jobs was working as a carpenter. In 1962 he went to work for the Norman Police Dept. and retired in 1983 as Captain. He then worked five years as the Norman Civil Defense Director and in 1988 he went to work as Undersheriff for Cleveland County, retired in 1993. Throughout his life, George loved being in the outdoors where he could hunt and fish. He was an avid sportsman and was a lifelong member of the NRA. He and Mary enjoyed fishing at Lake Texoma, camping and traveling. He was preceded in death by: Parents: Manon and Gladys Mauldin 2 brothers: Frank “Bud” Mauldin and James Mauldin 1 sister: Bonnie Cox and husband Paul 2 brother-in-laws: Raymond Spor and Danny Dennis He is survived by: Wife: Mary Mauldin of the home 1 son: George Mauldin Jr. and wife Kerry of Norman 1 daughter: Linda Mauldin of Lexington 2 brothers: Leroy Mauldin and wife Vanessa of Gainesville, TX Jeffrey Mauldin and wife Susan of Norman 2 sisters: Louise Rodriquez and husband Stan of Midwest City Alice Lessly and husband Bob of Norman 2 brother-in-laws: Leroy Spor and wife Emma Lou of Norman Carl Spor and wife Brenda of Lexington 1 sister-in-law: Margie Dennis of Noble 1 grandson: Joshua Mauldin 3 step grandchildren: Kennedy Shahan, Layton and Landon Mayhue Also many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends
Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Purcell. Interment will be at the Lexington Cemetery. Arrangements are by Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell.
