Raymond Maggia Jr. age 87 of Lexington, passed away Monday, January 09, 2017 at Sunset Estates Nursing Home in Purcell after a brief illness.

Raymond was born on April 10, 1929 in Coalgate, Oklahoma. He was one of seven children born to Raymond Maggia Sr. and Josephine Pozzini. Raymond grew up in the Cottonwood Community and graduated from Coalgate High School in 1947. Raymond later served in the U. S. Air Force for four years during the Korean Conflict. After being honorably discharged he returned home to Oklahoma and started working for McDonald Douglas in Tulsa. He later transferred to OKC and worked as an electrician for FAA and worked there until he retired in 1993. Raymond married Alice Ann Hughes in 1962 and together they had two sons, Raymond III and Paul while living in Purcell. After being married only five short years, Alice passed away in 1967. Nine years later, Raymond remarried in 1976, marring Pat Sparlin. Together they made their home in Lexington were she helped Raymond raise his boys. After Raymond retired from FAA, he and Pat owned and operated Pat’s Retail Liquor in Lexington. After she passed away in 2004, Raymond continued to operate the store until 2016. Raymond loved being outdoors and had a farm east of Lexington where he enjoyed farming and raising cattle. He was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Purcell, a member of the Knights of Columbus. Throughout his life, he enjoyed fishing and hunting and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by: Parents, Raymond and Josephine Maggia; Brother, Jimmy Maggia, Sister, Katherine Zuech; two wives, Alice and Pat;

He is survived by: Two sons, Ray Maggia and wife Cindy of Norman, Paul Maggia and wife Melinda of Purcell; One step-daughter, Priscilla McAlister of Florida, Two brothers, Tony Maggia and wife Brenda of Coalgate, Johnny Maggia also of Coalgate; Two sisters, Josephine Carpenter and husband Jim of Chickasha, Alice Ann Drake and husband Bucky of Conroe, TX. Six grandchildren, Zach and Braiden Maggia, Mike McAlister, Jessica Downey, David and Leslie Broomfield. Four great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Thursday, January 12, 2017 at Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel in Purcell. Interment will be at the Lexington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oklahoma Medical Resource Foundation. Send online condolences @wilsonlittle.com
