Don Edward Looman was born February 26, 1951 in Purcell, OK. He was one of three sons born to Elvas Lorn Looman and Ruby Sue (Poe) Looman. Don was raised in Purcell and attended Purcell schools graduating with the class of 1969. While in school, Don was a standout athlete, especially in football. He would later be named to the “1960’s All Decade Dragon Team”, an accomplishment he often fondly recalled. After high school, Don began working in the oil field, working his way up to driller and later as a tool pusher. He spent time working, first in Louisiana, then later in Florida, before moving to the slopes of Alaska. Don worked more than 20 years in the oilfield before a severe injury forced him to retire.
