Lewis Anthony “Tony” Kensell age 74 of Noble, formerly of Edmond, passed away Sunday, May 22, 2016 after an extended battle with ALS. Tony was born on June 13, 1941 in Lawton, OK. He was the oldest of two sons born to Lewis Carl Kensell and Ruth Mae (Caldwell) Kensell. Tony grew up in Lawton and graduated from Lawton High School with the class of 1960. After high school he attended the University of Central Oklahoma and later got his bachelor’s degree in history in 1967. After college, Tony remained living in Edmond and went to work for the State of Oklahoma. He made a career working for the Department of Rehabilitation as a Disability Examiner. Throughout his life, Tony enjoyed being involved in state and national politics. While working for the State of Oklahoma, he became an advocate for workplace anti-smoking legislation. He worked tirelessly with state legislators in adopting laws for Oklahomans to become smoke free. Tony was an avid reader and also an avid O. U. fan. Because of his failing health, he moved to Noble in 2015 to be close to his family and caregivers.
He was preceded in death by: Father, Lewis Kensell; Sister-in-law, Effie Kensell;
He is survived by: Mother, Ruth Kensell of Noble; Brother, Doug Kensell of Tulsa; One aunt, Maxine Hightower of Lexington; Two nephews, Jeremy Kensell and Chris Henderson, both of Tulsa; Also several cousins and a host of friends.
Graveside funeral services will be 3:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at the Lexington Cemetery in Lexington, OK. Arrangements are by Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell. Send online condolences @wilsonlittle.com
