David Anderson, age 78 of Lexington, passed away, Sunday, September 22, 2019. David Lynn Anderson was born July 24, 1941 in Lexington, the only child of J G and Bobbie (Horttor) Anderson. He spent his early years in Lexington, before moving to Norman where he finished school. David graduated from Norman High School with the Class of 1959.
After high school, David answered the call of duty and proudly served in the United States Army. He settled in Norman and began working in construction. David was an excellent carpenter and his skill served him well, building homes all around Norman and the surrounding areas.
He was the proud father of daughter, Kim and son, Chad. On September 26, 1987, David followed his heart and was united in marriage with Martha (Reynolds) Gilstrap. He welcomed her son Jim and two families became one. But David longed to return to his roots, and they relocated back home to Lexington, settling on the old Anderson home place.
David loved tinkering with wood and shared many of his trinkets with his family and friends. He enjoyed traveling and looked forward to visiting family out of state. David never lost his love of learning. He studied arts and crafts and took a creative writing class. He learned to cut stained glass and wrote several short stories and poems. He was a wonderful husband and father, grandfather and a true friend. He will be dearly missed!
He was preceded in death by: His parents, J G and Bobbie Anderson.
David is survived by: His wife, Martha of the home; Children, Kim Croslin of Purcell, Chad Anderson and wife Carol of San Clemente, CA and Jim Gilstrap of Norman; 9 grandchildren, Kassidy Croslin, Blake Croslin, Kinley Croslin, Kylie Anderson, Siena Anderson, Alan Gilstrap, Cheyenne Cox and husband Ethan, Chara key Wright and Meghan Wright; 2 great grandchildren, Klover Arnold and River Stanley and A host of other family and friends.
Graveside Funeral Services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, September 24, 2019, at the Lexington Cemetery.
