Leonda Scott, age 83, of Wanette, passed away Monday, November 16, 2020. Leonda Ruth Atchley was born November 2, 1937 in Wanette, the middle of 3 children born to William Leon Atchley and Zelma Blaine (Neal) Atchley. Leonda was raised in Wanette and attended Wanette schools.

By chance, she noticed a yellow car one day while walking through town. The young man inside it was Wilford William Scott. They quickly became friends and eventually more, and were married on January 9, 1958 in Oil Center. They built a home in the Box Community where they raised their only son, Jeff.

Leonda worked as a book keeper at Central State Hospital in Norman for several years, before joining the office at Sam Vaughn Insurance Agency in Purcell. Her greatest joy was being a wife and mother, and she was never happier than the day she became "Ma" to Ethan and Joshua. Leonda tried her hand in gardening, and cared for and kept records at the Box Cemetery for many years.

She was a woman of great faith and an excellent musician, and shared her talents singing and playing guitar. She was a member of the Rose Hill Pentecostal Church for many years, and more recently, the Pentecostal Holiness Church in Byars.

She was a wonderful mother; the best grandmother, sister, aunt and a true friend. She will be dearly missed!

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Wilford Scott and her parents, Leon and Zelma Atchley.

Leonda is survived by: her son, Jeff Scott and wife Fonda of Lexington; Two sisters, Mary Vanscuyver and husband Alan of Wanette and Lois Gray of Purcell; two grandsons, Ethan Scott and Josh Scott, both of Lexington; dear friends, Karleen Shaw of Lexington, May Mouser of Byars, Bonnie Richardson of Byars, and Mary Rogers of Byars, and a host of other family and friends.

Graveside Services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Friday, November 20, 2020, at Box Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorials to Box Cemetery Fund % McClain Bank, Purcell. Send online condolences Wilson Little Funeral Home
